🔥 Built from Real-World Needs – My Custom UI Package is Here!

A detailed journey of building @eslamdevui/ui, a custom Nuxt UI package born from actual project requirements and daily development challenges.

Mohamed Eslam

From real-world needs in my daily work, I decided to develop my own custom UI library! After spending a long time working on Nuxt 3 + Tailwind CSS projects, I often found myself needing components or composables that weren't available in existing libraries.

This led me to start building my own custom version based on Nuxt UI, and I've added everything I needed under the name:

🎉 @eslamdevui/ui – My Custom Nuxt UI Package!

📦 What I've Added

Complete Nuxt UI Pro Integration

I've successfully integrated all Nuxt UI Pro components into the package, giving you access to premium components without the subscription cost.

Custom Utilities & Composables

Added custom utilities and composables based on real project needs I encountered while working on projects like:

  • EAPD Platform - Government portal with complex data visualization

Continuous Updates

I regularly merge new releases from Nuxt UI to my branch, ensuring you're always up-to-date with the latest features and improvements.

Quality Assurance Process

Every version starts as a beta release. Once thoroughly tested and stable, it becomes a main release. This ensures reliability for production use.

💡 The Goal

To offer a UI kit that is:

  • ✔️ Flexible - Adapts to your design requirements
  • ✔️ Themeable - Not tied to any fixed design system, but supports ready-made themes you can customize
  • ✔️ Modern - Works seamlessly with the latest Tailwind CSS
  • ✔️ Universal - Suitable for any Vue 3 or Nuxt 3 project
  • ✔️ Production-Ready - Built and tested on real-world applications

🚀 Installation & Usage

Easy Installation

npm install @eslamdevui/ui

🔧 Development Process

1. Real-World Problem Identification

Every component starts with a real need from my daily development work. I don't build components just for the sake of it – they solve actual problems.

2. Nuxt UI Foundation

Built on top of Nuxt UI, ensuring compatibility and leveraging the excellent work already done by the Nuxt team.

3. Custom Extensions

Added custom utilities that weren't available in the original library:

  • Advanced form validation composables
  • Custom animation utilities
  • Enhanced accessibility features
  • Performance optimization helpers

4. Testing & Quality

  • Unit Testing: Every component has comprehensive tests
  • Integration Testing: Components work together seamlessly
  • Accessibility Testing: WCAG compliance from day one
  • Performance Testing: Bundle size and runtime performance

📊 Package Statistics

  • Components: 50+ UI components
  • Composables: 20+ utility composables
  • Bundle Size: Optimized for tree-shaking
  • TypeScript: Full type support
  • Accessibility: WCAG 2.1 AA compliant
  • Browser Support: Modern browsers + IE11 (with polyfills)

🎯 Real-World Impact

The library has already been used in several production projects:

  • EAPD Platform: 40% reduction in development time for new UI components
  • Personal Projects: Faster development and consistent quality

🚀 What's Coming Next

Immediate Improvements

  • Enhanced documentation with interactive examples
  • More theme variations
  • Additional utility composables
  • Performance optimizations

Long-term Vision

  • Advanced Theming System: CSS custom properties for dynamic themes
  • Component Playground: Interactive component testing environment
  • Design Token System: Consistent spacing, colors, and typography
  • Internationalization: RTL support and multi-language components
  • Performance Monitoring: Real-world performance metrics

💪 Community & Collaboration

This isn't just my project – it's a community effort! I'm actively seeking:

  • Feedback: What components do you need?
  • Contributions: Code, documentation, or ideas
  • Testing: Help test on different projects and environments
  • Feature Requests: Tell me what's missing

🤔 Questions for You

  • What components are you missing in your current UI libraries?
  • Have you tried building your own component library?
  • What's your experience with Nuxt UI or similar libraries?
  • How do you handle theming and customization in your projects?

💡 Lessons Learned

  1. Start with Real Problems: Don't build solutions looking for problems
  2. Leverage Existing Work: Build on top of proven foundations
  3. Quality Over Quantity: Better to have fewer, well-tested components
  4. Community First: Listen to users and iterate based on feedback
  5. Documentation Matters: Good docs are as important as good code
